The Great Scottish Walk Ltd are delighted to announce Scottish Slimmers as sponsors of the 12 mile distance at the 2008 Great Scottish Walk Edinburgh and Great Scottish Walk Glasgow.


Lorraine Queen, Promotions Manager of the Aberdeen based slimming group commented; “Scottish Slimmers have been inspiring Scots to take positive steps towards a healthier future for almost thirty years now. The Great Scottish Walks provide an event which is easy to participate in, no matter what level your fitness, and we are delighted to be counted as partners for the forthcoming year.”

Before the 2008 Great Walks set off warm up Tracy Griffen will be on hand to take all participants through a warm up session to ensure walkers are limber and ready to achieve success. Staggered water stops will be placed along the route to keep walkers hydrated, along with entertainment in the start/ finish venue to keep spirits up.

Upon completion, walkers are presented with a medal and certificate of achievement. Participants who complete the full 12 mile distance will also be eligible for one of our Great Walk trophies, presented in a number of categories including teams (male, female, U18), Fancy Dress, Mixed / Family and Individual.

We encourage all walkers to bring family and friends for support and welcome encouragement along the route.

Glasgow 12 mile route (NEW!)

This scenic 12 mile route starts and begins at Bellahouston Park’s Palace of Art and takes in five of Glasgows great parks. It’s a leafy and lush 12 mile walk through the cityscape of Glasgow for all the family to enjoy. Parks included in the route are Pollok Country Park, Bellahouston Park, Queen’s Park, Maxwell Park and Newlands Park. The route for the six mile walk is the same as the six mile route until you exit Pollok Country Park.


1/ Same as the 6 mile until you exit Pollok Country Park at 2060 Pollokshaws Rd under railway bridge turn right here.

2/ Continue up Haggs Rd ,take left at roundabout onto Nether Auldhouse Rd.

3/ Continue along N A Rd,take left into Lubnaig Rd, turn left into Newlands Pk and follow route in park,exit park at Beverley Rd gate.

4/ Turn right on to Kilmarnock Rd continue along and then turn right into Queen's Pk at Langside Avenue follow route in park.

5/ Exit Q Pk,at Balvicar St/Pollokshaws Rd gate.

6/ Continue along Pollokshaws Rd turning left into Nithsdale Rd.

7/ Continue along N/dale Rd turn left into St John's Rd cross over Dalziel Rd and enter Maxwell Pk follow route in park.

8/ Exit Maxwell Park at Glencairn Gardens turn right ,cross over Terregles Ave/Fotheringay Rd/Kirkcaldy Rd into Dolphin Rd.

9/ Turn right into Titwood Rd.

10/ Continue along T/wood Rd then pick up 6 mile route returning to Bellahouston Pk at junction with St Andrews Dr/Haggs Rd/Dumbreck Rd.

Edinburgh 12 mile route

Join in the group parade from Meadowbank Stadium to the start point at Holyrood Park to soak up the atmosphere or join directly at Holyrood Park.

Route: a lap of Holyrood Park leaving from Holyrood Gait (beside Dynamic Earth) then along Holyrood Road, Cowgate, Grassmarket, Kings Stables Road, Princes Street Gardens West, The Mound, Market Street, East Market Street, New Street, Calton Road, Calton Hill, Waterloo Place, Regent Road, Carlton Terrace, Royal Terrace, London Road, Leith Walk, Great Junction Street, Henderson Street, Sandport Place, Dock Street, Dock Place at Leith Docks through Leith Docks emerging at The Shore, Bernard Street , Constitution Street , Queen Charlotte Street , Links Place , across Links Place , across Leith Walk to Vanburgh Place , Easter Road, St Clair Street , Hawkbill Avenue , Lochend Road South , Marionville Road , Wishaw Terrace and entering Meadowbank Stadium via the Marathon gate.
